Based on the novel Faith Like Potatoes, this inspiring film tells the story of Angus Buchan, a South African farmer who suffers a series of seemingly insurmountable losses, but through an unlikely friendship with his Zulu farmhand and divine interventions, discovers the key to healing himself and learning to accept others lies in his unwavering belief in the power of faith.

On the 20th July a fleet of minibuses and cars left East London for the beauty of the New Forest, Hampshire; a far cry from the busy streets of the metropolis. Our goal being the Annual Bible Conference of World Vision for Christ’. Housed in four large Norwegian-style log cabins (Lodges) deep in the New Forest, was an experience in itself. We were all looking forward to a time of blessing and to ‘hearing from heaven’ – learning the mind of the Lord regarding our own lives and that of the life of our Fellowship. The delegates came from many different countries; England (including Yorkshire!), Ireland, N & S., France, Ghana, The Philippines, China, Bolivia, Jamaica, and several other W.I. islands.

Dr. Albert Chambers challenged us night by night in his studies of the Word; taking as his theme the state of the church in general in our land, revealing the obvious need for Revival. Each time he aimed at the following: To Attract Attention… To Impart Information… To Impel Action.

He very adequately fulfilled his mission in the first two areas, but of course in the latter – that is up to us! It is only on our return to church and family life that CHANGE will be seen. Even as the Bible exhorts, we must be doers of the Word and not hearers only; we certainly ‘heard the Word’ but now we must translate it into our individual lives, which in turn will affect our Fellowship, and if we follow on as he has taught us, change will come. May God grant that it be so.

In early July four from our church will be travelling to Nigeria on a ten day Mission to the Orphanage administered by Sister Lara Adeyemo.

This year we celebrate forty years of full Gospel Ministry as World Vision for Christ and it was the express desire of Dr. Chambers’ daughter Abigail that a team should visit Sister Lara as part of those celebrations, and to encourage her in the great work that she is doing; her outreaches touch thousands of children in town and rural areas.

The Team will comprise of: Abigail, Angela Owusu, Alexander Chambers, all young people, who are giving up holiday and church commitments for this venture. Also travelling with them will be Brother Gerry Blezard, a more fatherly figure. They have gone a long way to paying their own fares for this mission, to which they are keenly looking forward.

We share this news with, as you will certainly be hearing more of it through a later Newsletter from Lara, and at the same time it is an opportunity for you to uphold them with your prayers.

They will be filming and photographing their time down there and we will share some of these visual aids in due course.

Thanking you again for your faithful support of Child Gospel Mission and wishing you every blessing in your particular part of the Vineyard.

FAITH

FAITH

Matthew 17.20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place;and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Luke 7.50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

Romans 1.17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Romans 3.25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

Romans 5.1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Romans 10.17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

2 corinthians 5.7 For we walk by faith, not by sight

HOPE

Psalm 39.7 And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

Psalm 42.5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

Galatians 5.5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

Colossians 1.23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

Titus 2.13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

Hebrews 6.19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;

1 Peter 1.3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead

LOVE

Deuteronomy 6.5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

John 14.23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

John 15.9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

John 15.13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Romans 8.35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

1 Thessalonians 3.12 And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:

Hebrews 13.1 Let brotherly love continue.

1 Peter 1.22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

World Vision for Christ has conducted open-air street meetings since 1969. Our most constant, long standing street witness is in the internationally known Petticoat Lane, in the City of London.

Another part of London, where we have work at is Ridley Road Market in East London. Almost 30 years ago we had a Bible Stall within the market – until changes to the market were made and we moved our stall to another area, however we continued our street witnessing; but climate in our country is changing. A few people in, so called, positions of authority are making critical decisions that are affecting lives.

On Saturday 2nd May 2009, our open-air group was moved on by a combination of “Market Marshals’ and a shopkeeper. The “reason” given were, trespassing and causing an obstruction, then that was changed…. We were not causing an obstruction… Finally, we were told the truth, but not without a great deal of searching and questioning. They do not want us in Ridley Market.

On Saturday 9th May 2009, our group went back to Ridley Market, but this time to talk to the people who actually make the market work – the general public.

We petitioned shoppers – telling them that the Gospel message being preached in their market was under threat.

Now we know that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes. The Gospel changes lives – it makes bad people good, gives health, happiness to all who embrace It in totality.

People stopped and signed this petition, and also showed their outrage at the way decisions are arbitrarily made with no consultation.

Of course, once again, our presence was taken exception to. On a public highway, we were told we “needed a permit” to hand out Gospel literature. We were also told to “move on” when 3 of us stopped to talk with each other. Are they, “the powers that be,” so worried about a group of Christians, that they have to watch 3 ladies and one pushchair, to tell them to move?
