Providing affordable Bibles and sound Christian materials has taken our members down different ‘paths’!
In the 1970’s & 1980’s we would line up in Brixton Market, (south west London) come rain or shine, to await the ‘good pleasure’ of the market holders where we would be provided with a wooden ‘barrow’ ! I say ‘good pleasure’ because the men were not always generously disposed to the selling of Bibles etc. I think the WVfChrist Ministry was the first to have a stall in Brixton Market (this was, of course in the open and we had to withstand the elements). Then we ‘moved up’ and found a unit in the indoor part. The Lord blessed our Brixton Bible Store, not just for the selling of Bibles and Christian goods, but folks came in for prayer and counselling and still others found Christ. Unfortunately rents increased and other factors came in, so after 20years or so trading in Brixton we ‘moved on’.
In Ridley Road Market, there was also an indoor section and again in the 1970’s we rented a stall and carried our ‘goods’ week by week again to give the Christians in East London the opportunity of purchasing affordable Bibles and Christian Materials. Then the developers came and the ‘indoor’ part was made into something else, again we ‘moved on’.
In 1986 we opened our ‘permenant’ Bible Store in Manor Park, East London. What a change we have seen over the years; in the area where we are located and in the overall way commericalism has come into this part of the Christian ministry. Our store in Manor Park is indeed a lighthouse and a sactuary as well as making sound Christian materials available to the Saints of God.
Pray for the WVfChrist Bible Bookstore. It is open 6 days a week, from 9.30am to 8pm and 9pm on a Friday. Staff need your prayers and support. We thank God for His protection over the years, we thank Him for the opportunities He has afforded us to be in Brixton Market & Ridley Market. We thank Him for being able to keep the doors to our Manor Park Store open, even in most difficult finances times.
Working in these areas has given us a rich and varied experience, both in leading men and women to the Lord and in counselling those in need. He has also taken our dedicated staff through a wonderful learning process.
